Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday — 7:23 AM - 2:10 PM

Book Checkout: available from period 1B until 2:10 PM.
Printing: Available every period. Bring your laptop with you to the library to print.

Research and Technology Help: While literature, history, media, and technology are her specialties, Ms. Daugherty is an avid researcher and reader and is eager to help with any information need. However, she is in the middle school every morning, so please email if you need help during periods 1 or 2. Drop-ins are welcome during Advisement and Periods 4 & 5 if your teachers send you with a pass. Please check in when you arrive.
Teachers: Before bringing a class to the library, please schedule through Outlook or by emailing Ms. Daugherty. Include the size of your class and assignment information. When sending students to work independently, please remind them to check in when they arrive.
Flex Time Procedures:

A Flex - The library will be available for students during A Flex if they are sent with a pass from their teachers. Students who come to the library without passes from their A Flex Teachers will be sent back.

B & C Flexes:

There are no flex sign-ups during B & C Flexes.

The library is only available as a location for eating lunch:

Those who wish to eat in the library must either buy food from the Growler or pack their lunches.

Students may not get lunch in the cafeteria and take it up to the library to eat.

Students may not leave from the library to heat up their lunches in the microwave or purchase lunch from the cafeteria.

Students must have passes to come into and go from the library. If coming from a teacher's room for any reason, students need to ask for a pass.

Conduct Expectations:

During class periods, students need to respect the quiet environment of the library and the needs of those studying there by keeping volumes reasonable. This includes those coming and going from the Growler.

While students may eat in the library, they must do so at a table and away from the library computers.

Library users need to sit in places where they can be seen, not on the floor or between bookshelves.

Students who misbehave in the library will face disciplinary measures and may have their Flex Time and/or Library Lunch privileges suspended.
About the Librarian
Christa Daugherty came to Big Spring from the Greencastle area. After graduating from James Buchanan High School, Ms. Daugherty attended Penn State University's main campus where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education with a minor in English and honors in education. In addition to her education degree, Ms. Daugherty has a Master of Arts degree in American Studies—also from Penn State University—and a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from The University of Alabama. She holds Pennsylvania Instructional II teaching certifications in School Library Media, English, and Communication.
Before becoming a librarian, Ms. Daugherty was a high school teacher for 16 years. She taught Honors and Academic English III, Academic English I and II, Public Speaking, Leadership Development, World of Theater, Craft of Acting, and Keystone Test Prep as well as running the Mini-THON, directing the musical, and advising Student Council, Club CARE, and the sophomore class officers.

In addition to managing the library, Ms. Daugherty teaches Photojournalism and is the yearbook advisor. Daugherty also advises Quill and Scroll, the journalism honor society.
